Case Study: Castor Underground Gas Storage Project
After successfully managing Completions and Commissioning on a number of onshore and offshore projects in the UK and Norway between 2003 and 2008, Unasys secured the opportunity to partake in two key Spanish projects between 2008 and 2010, namely the CEPSA San Roque and La Rabida refinery expansions.
Background to the Project Award
Building on the success of these two major Spanish developments, Unasys was awarded a contract in 2010 to manage the onshore and offshore Completions and Commissioning scope for the Castor Underground Gas Storage Project in the Spanish Mediterranean area.
This would include two Bridge-linked Platforms, Pipeline and Offshore Plant. With an established presence in Spain, and an offshore oil & gas background gained through years working in the North Sea and further afield, Unasys was able to bring to the Castor UGS Project exactly the type of expertise required to assist with this major development:
personnel, completions software and proven processes. As the project progressed, Unasys was awarded several additional scopes of work including:
• Hook-Up & Commissioning scope identification, definition and planning including estimated total man-hours
• Production of multi-discipline Job Cards for offshore Hook-Up scope
• Preparation and provision of onshore and offshore Commissioning Procedures
• Management of Gas Pipeline Completions and Commissioning
• Management of punch-lists for all phases of the project
This expanding and changing scope of work provided challenges, but Unasys met these with a combination of leading edge technology, major project experience and dedicated hard work, ultimately bringing all of the individual scopes of work together in one concise and coordinated project package.
