Castor UGS
In 2010, Unasys was awarded the contract to manage the onshore Completions and Commissioning, and Offshore Hook up and Commissioning scope for the Castor Underground Gas Storage Project in the Spanish Mediterranean.
Scope
· Two bridge-linked offshore platforms.
· A subsea pipeline.
· An onshore operations plant.
With an established presence in Spain and extensive offshore oil & gas expertise—gained from years of working in the North Sea and globally—Unasys delivered the necessary personnel, completions software, and proven processes to support this major development.
Background
The project’s changing scope required integrating multiple workstreams into a single coordinated package.
Unasys utilised advanced technology, major project experience, and a dedicated approach to ensure all components aligned to meet the project schedule.
Challenges
Managing information flow and expediting acceptance documentation across international locations and layers of stakeholders (clients, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors) posed significant challenges.
To address this, Unasys adopted a proactive strategy, leading coordination efforts and ensuring efficient collaboration.
Spanish was the official project language.
Unasys leveraged its local presence and expertise to bridge communication gaps effectively.
Unasys Approach
Unasys successfully delivered the project, ensuring:
· The introduction of hydrocarbons on schedule.
· Final Handover Dossiers presented in the same week as the completion of physical works (June 2012).
The client expressed high satisfaction with Unasys’ ability to overcome challenges and achieve early project closeout.
